URGENSI UNDANG-UNDANG TENTANG KESETARAAN DAN KEADILAN GENDER

Abstract

Law on gender equality and equity (KKG) is one of bills listed in the 2014 National Legislation Program (Prolegnas) which has not been yet accomplished in DPR RI. There was one faction which cannot agreed this bill to be introduced by DPR RI, and similarly, another faction has firmly rejected the further  discussions of the bill to become law. Aside from this, the writer argued that  its content is essential to help implement a gender equality and equity principle in family, society, and state. The existance of such kind of law to accelerate the creation of equal opportunity and role for men and women in exercising their civil, political, economic, and cultural rights. Its existance become more important  because although women rights have been protected in the 1945 constitution  and other implementing laws. In fact,  there founds loopholes and inequality in practices, in particular regarding the so-called gender and violence based discrimination. Therefore, it is further argued by the writer that  the KKG bill which has been sent to DPR RI last period (2009-2014) should be put in to agenda of the current parliament.
