Abstract

Free trade currently becomes the main regime of international trade which creates interdependence among countries. Specifically, free trade leads to increasing trade flows in one hand, and one the other, declining role of the government in making regulations, supervisions and protection of trade. The rising figures of import resulted from the increasing trade flaws eventually put pressure on domestics entrepreneurs. ln relation with this, findings of this research -which took place in the Riau province – discloses that amid the shrinking trend of government role, the (regional) government is needed to take initiate ta persuade investors not to move to other countries. lts role is also still needed in minimizing production cost such as in supporting the provisions of adequate workers' facilities, improving infrastructures, and pushing the development of small and medium enterprises.
