Abstract

ASEAN Economic Community that will be started in the end of 2015 will change ASEAN into a single market and production base. Thus, it has been argued in this essay that the value of international trade and economic transaction among ASEAN countries tends to increase. This essay discusses the possibility of five ASEAN member countries (Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand) to create and use a common currency using applying VAR model and correlation analysis. The writers argue that the five ASEAN countries need more time and adjustment if they want to use a common currency. This writer further says that the creation of a common currency in the region would be easier if it would begin with ASEAN five main member countries and let other member to join and follow it.
